Topic: Importing CSV files into BadgeBuilder
Question: When importing data into a database from a CSV file, the last field in the database has data in for some records that shouldn't be there. What's wrong?

Answer: In order to properly import text into the database, all text-based entries, including blank ones, must be surrounded by double-quotes.

For example: "first name","last name","",""

Topic: Outside printable area warning message
Question: Why do I keep getting a message that my card is outside of the usable print area when I print?

Answer: The printer that you are using is setting the usable page size which is often somewhat smaller than full page size. You can check this by going to the print dialog and checking in page info. You will need to reduce the size of your card to be under the usable page width and height listed. See the next Q&A for details.

Topic: Running multiple copies of BadgeBuilder on a network
Question: Can I run multiple copies of BadgeBuilder on computers connected by a Local Area Network (LAN) and have them all work from a common database?

Answer: Yes. For full details of how to set this up please click the document symbol at left.

  Topic: Tryout Features and Printing
Question: I was printing OK but now there is countdown dialog suggesting that my features are going away in a couple of more prints. Why is this happening?

Answer: In several versions of the software there is a bug that caused the optional features countdown to work even when the unpurchased features weren’t being tried. This message will go away and the program will continue to function normally. Some icons will go away when the message does. If a feature goes away that you believe you purchased, please contact your vendor to confirm. Have the serial number of the key ready in case they need it.

Topic: BadgeBuilder stays in Demo Mode with Dongle attached
Question: I have installed BadgeBuilder and attached my Sentinel Dongle but my program still comes up in DEMO mode. What is wrong?

Answer: This usually happens because the Sentinel key driver did not install correctly during the BadgeBuilder installation. Visit the downloads section and download the Sentinel Key Driver install. Follow the installation instructions and restart BadgeBuilder when complete. The program should now come up in BROWSE mode.

Topic: Barcode Fonts Problems in V4.x
Question: I have installed BadgeBuilder and am trying to use barcodes. However, whenever I display a card that should have a barcode, I get an error or it just displays "garbage" characters. What should I do?

Answer: The install for BadgeBuilder 4 may not properly register the barcode fonts in all versions of Windows. The following steps should be taken to remedy the problem:

- For Windows XP, simply rebooting the computer should register the fonts and allow BadgeBuilder to recognize them. Open BadgeBuilder to confirm proper barcode operation.

- For Windows versions prior to XP, you must do the following steps:

  1. Open the Windows fonts folder by click START - Run... and then typing "%windir%\fonts" (without the quotes) and clicking OK.
  2. Find, select and copy to your Windows Desktop all of the fonts in the folder that start with the word WASP
  3. Copy all of the resulting .TTF files from the Desktop back to the Fonts folder. You may see a dialog appear briefly as Windows processes the font files.
  4. When copying is complete, close the Fonts folder and delete any .TTF files left on the Desktop.
The font files should now be registered and installed with Windows. Open BadgeBuilder to confirm proper barcode operation.

Please note: If you cannot find the Wasp barcode fonts in your Windows Fonts folder, you can download them HERE.

Topic: Can't save pictures to a linked database
Question: I added the four required fields and linked to an existing database. The information came in but when I make a change to an existing record or take a picture it doesn’t save. What’s wrong?

Answer: You need to populate the datakey field with unique numbers. The datakey is a number which must be present so that each record in the database is guaranteed to be different. The badging program will take over control of putting this number in for all new records.

Topic: Integrating BadgeBuilder into other software
Question: Can BadgeBuilder be integrated into other software products using an XML interface?

Answer: Yes, for full details of the XML RPC (Remote Procedure Call) interface, please click the document icon at the left.

Topic: Prevented record deletion with a linked database
Question: I am linking to a database that should not have records added or deleted. I need to be able to modify existing data, take pictures and print badges. How can I do this?

Answer: There is a start-up level called Server Mode that allows this style of operation. To enable it, do the following: Open your database and log in as a master user. Go to “Configuration” and down to “Program Set-Up”. At the bottom of the list will be a check box with a description of “Allow changes to current record”. Check this box. This setting will now be saved with the .idc file. No other databases will be affected. Then, create a shortcut to the badging program. Go to the properties of the shortcut and look at the “Short Cut” tab. There will be a listing in the target line similar to “C:\program files\badging\BadgBuilder\bb32.exe”. Insert a space after the last e in .exe and then add “/server” (no quotes) to the end of this line. This shortcut will now start the program in Server Mode. BE AWARE: NO error messages OR confirmations will come up in this mode. This does not apply to BadgeBuilder LXI/Direct

Topic: Reducing the size of a badge
Question: I need to reduce the size of my card. How do I do this?

Answer: Go to “File” and then down to “Revise Current Badge Design”. When the card design comes up on the screen, right click on the card anywhere where there is not a field. When the dialog box comes up will have X and Y size numbers in the lower right hand section. These should be modified to reflect the size you need. If you get a message that the card cannot be sized that small, you will need to move or reduce the size of fields which have borders on the edge of the card.

Topic: Can't capture images from my digital camera
Question: I purchased a digital camera and I installed the software but the program still won’t let me acquire. Why not?

Answer: The camera you purchased may or may not have come with a TWAIN driver. In the badging program, go to “Configuration”. If “Select Source” is not available then you may not have purchased the PIA option. You will need to obtain this feature from your vendor. See the answer for the question above for further details. If “Select Source” is available, click on it to open the TWAIN sources dialog box. If there are no entries then a TWAIN source has not been installed. Try re-installing your software to see if there was a selection for a TWAIN driver that was missed. If not, contact the vendor or check their WWW page to find if a TWAIN driver is available.

  Topic: Intermittant SPOOLSV.EXE error
Question: Sometimes when I am printing with my Magicard Rio/Tango printer, I receive a Windows error referencing SPOOLSV.EXE. What is this and what can I do?

Answer: In rare instances, there is a USB incompatibility between the computer and the printer that causes the problem. If you experience this problem, using the parallel port interface rather than USB should solve the problem.

Topic: TWAIN issue with Integral Flashbus Lite
Question: In Windows NT, the TWAIN driver will not function correctly with BadgeBuilder.

Answer: Windows NT incorrectly tries to start the 16-bit TWAIN driver and not the 32-bit driver. To correct this, find and rename or remove the "twunk_16.exe" file from your system.
