PDF417

This optional feature rectangle allows a PDF417 type bar code to be displayed on the badge.  Generally, data is assigned to the bar code in the same way as for the other bar codes.  See Assigning Data to a Holder. for more information.

If the Rows or Cols entries are left as Auto, then the number of rows or columns in the PDF417 will be computed automatically based upon the amount of data to be displayed.  Either parameter or both can be set explicitly.  Setting too small a number may not allow the data to fit into the bar code.

The ECC Level can also be left on Auto and the amount of error correction data added will be a percentage of the amount of data, where the percentage can be set in the adjacent box.  If not set to Auto, a specific level can be selected.

If Binary Encode is checked, then the data will be encoded into the PDF417 using a binary method.  If unchecked, then text encoding will be used.

If Truncate is checked then the end bars will be omitted from the bar code.  This reduces the overall size of the bar code, but also slightly reduces its readability by scanners.

For more information on PDF417 and the technical explanation of these parameters, see the relevant AIM specifications.
