Time Fields

Time fields display hours, minutes and optionally seconds.  The Windows™ Control Panel is used to determine if hours display leading zeros and which character to use to separate the time elements.  The Control Panel is also used to determine if the time is displayed in 12 or 24 hour clock style, and if the former, which characters are used to represent “am” and “pm”.  The display of seconds is controlled by settings in the menu sequence Configuration, Date/Time Set Up.  For more information on this see the Configuration chapter under  Program Settings.

When entering times, you always use 24 hour clock format and include a leading zero on hours below 10.  Here are some examples of 12 hour clock times and their equivalent in 24 hour format:

If seconds display is turned off, then a time entry field might display as:

With seconds turned on it might appear as:

You do not need to enter any other characters other than the digits.

The dialog appears to allow you to enter invalid times like 25:69.  However, when you attempt to close the dialog by clicking on OK, the first invalid field will be detailed in a pop-up box.  After you close the box you can find the field in question and the correct digits can then be entered.

[For the technically inclined, when seconds display is suppressed, seconds are stored as zero and when a database timestamp field is used to display a time only, the date is set to 1899-12-30 in the database field.]
