Resizing A Rectangle

In addition to using the dialog to resize a rectangle you can also adjust it by dragging with the mouse.  As you position over the rectangle the mouse cursor changes to one of several arrows.  When the arrows point in all 4 directions, the entire rectangle will move.  When the arrows only point in 2 directions the size of the rectangle will be adjusted in those directions only.  To drag, wait until the mouse cursor is the desired type and then click and hold the left mouse button.  Then, while holding the button down, adjust the “ghost” rectangle until the desired size and position is achieved, and then release the mouse button.

Once one or more rectangles are selected, you can also move them in small increments using the left, right, up and down arrow keys on your keyboard.

Rectangles can be sized down to 0.01”(0.3mm) in either direction.  This feature can be used to design vertical and horizontal lines.  This is best done by creating a rectangle and selecting it to set the background color.  It can be either a text or bitmap type.  The position and size can be entered if desired, or the edges of the rectangle can be dragged to the desired size.  For example, to set a horizontal line at a certain position and length, create a rectangle and then position it so that the top edge is at the position you desire.  Move the left and right edges so that the length is correct.  When the edge is the right length and at the right position, drag the bottom line up until the line is the desired width.

When working with rectangles for bar codes, the shape of the rectangle automatically determines the orientation of the contents.  When working with rectangles for text, the shape of the rectangle automatically determines the orientation of the contents, if the Auto feature is selected for Rotation.  In these case, if the rectangle is taller than it is wide, the contents will be displayed vertically.  Otherwise they will be horizontal.  The “Inverted” check box in the associated parameter pop-up dialog  controls whether or not the contents show right-side-up or up-side-down.  See Position for more information.
