It has always been possible to use the Badging Program connected to a database on a remote computer linked via the Internet. However, until V5.40 the image files, which store photographs, fingerprints and signatures were always stored locally on a given computer.
This made true centralization of the badge database not fully possible. But starting with V5.40, these images can be stored right in the database, assuming the type of database supports it. Most professional databases do, including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL and mySQL. The result of this is that multiple badging stations can connect via the Internet, or other high speed network, to a central badge database and all share the same data.
However, each station can have entirely different badge designs so the badge data can be displayed and printed on badges specific to the station.
When this feature is combined with the Database Mirror feature, it becomes particularly powerful. All badge data can be stored securely at a central location and "snap-shot" copies of it made to the local station for use when that station is not able to connect directly to the central database. You will find more information on Database Mirroring.
