Standard dongles only provide one license, and therefore only allow one copy of the program to operate at a time. This is true whether or not it is accessed via a Network Dongle License Server.
Multi-license dongles are also available. To be effective, these have to be used in conjunction with a Network Dongle License Server. Such dongles will allow as many copies of the program to run at different computers or terminal servers, as defined in the dongle. A multi-license dongle has a maximum number of licenses it can contain. Dongles are available with different maxima. Each dongle is initially programmed with a number of licenses less than or equal to this maximum. When less than, the number can be increased via field re-programming of the dongle.
